Michaelmas 2018 President's Drinks- 10 Year Anniversary Special

Michaelmas has arrived, and in traditional OxWIB style our President's Drinks event was a highly anticipated evening, with a record number of guests attending from across the university. This term is an extremely special one for OxWIB, as the society celebrated its 10 Year Anniversary, so to mark the occasion the event was hosted at the grand Oxford Town Hall and was an even more indulgent, fun and glamorous affair. Additionally, there were two very exciting and inspiring announcements, so keep reading to find out which surprises OxWIB has in store for its members. The evening was kindly sponsored by OC&C, so thank you to them for helping us host the evening.

The venue was transformed, decorated with multicoloured balloons and lights, and the guests enjoyed delicious bespoke cupcakes, macarons, popcorn and sweets, as well as a sparkling reception and a wine bar. The evening was the perfect opportunity for the committee, new members and guests to mingle and share stories of their summer vacations and term plans as well as to discuss the range of great events that are being hosted by OxWIB in the next 8 weeks.

Entertainment is always a key part of the termly party, and this time guests were dancing along to Still Pidgeon, Oxford's very own student indie band and then were delighted by the Oxford Funk Collective's performance. The evening was captured by both a professional photographer and a fancy dress Photo Booth, so be sure to look out for these if you want to keep your memories on film!

Finally, what you've all been waiting for, the special announcements!

Firstly, OxWIB is delighted to announce that Julie Brown, the Chief Operating and Financial Officer of Burberry is joining our society as our patron. This is such an exciting chance for OxWIB to work with someone who we feel understands and embodies our aspirations and aims as a society, and we are delighted that Julie will be our patron to inspire and support us throughout the next stages of our society. Our culture as a community is to promote and encourage ambitious, open minded and supportive women in their business ventures and beyond, and we are looking forward to seeing all of you at our upcoming events to experience this for yourselves!

Our next announcement is the launch of our brand new magazine named Insight, which is filled with inspirational stories, tips and tricks to get ahead in business as well as opportunities for our members to get involved in. There are pieces written by both committee members and personal accounts from entrepreneurs from a variety of fields as well as informative opinion pieces. The magazine's editor Katie described the reasoning behind the name choice Insight, by saying that it not only reflects our hope that the information contained within these pages will give you an honest and useful look into the world of business, but to also promote women being visible and 'in sight' in high profile professions to hopefully inspire the next generation of female business leaders. We hope that you enjoy reading this so pick up a copy at our events and we welcome any future contributions!

Overall, the start of a new term and a new calendar of OxWIB events will hopefully excite, inspire and challenge you to learn something new, not only about business but also about yourself.
