About the Event

About Melissa: At Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business Melissa co-teaches the popular course Acting with Power. She lectures in the flagship Stanford Executive Program among others, and is an affiliate at the Clayman Institute for Gender Research. In the UK, Melissa serves as an Associate Fellow at the Oxford Character Project at the University of Oxford.  Off campus, Melissa works with executives and teams at top corporations and hyper-growth startups, as well as NGOs and national institutions. Trained as a performing artist in London and New York, she is a passionate advocate for equity in arts education and her international non-profit work focuses on social justice. She divides her time between San Francisco and London.

The relationship between gender and power in the workplace and society is complex and dynamic. People get different results from the same behaviour. Explore your personal relationship to the performance of power in this 2-part series. Experiment with a framework to decode and calibrate signals of authority and connection, among other ready-to-implement strategies. Combining performance techniques and research from the fields of social psychology and gender research, this interactive session provides insight into your ability to create impact. Session 1 “Power & Presence'' has focused on why and how we act with the power we have.  Session 2 “Allies & Action” will explore the intersections of identity we share and the ways we engage and generationally lead across differences.
